MamaBlogger365 – Celebrating 10 Years of Nurturing Your Success® by Coach Julie, RN

For the past 10 years, I have been coaching, educating, inspiring and motivating you to be your personal best. Ten years! It’s been an amazing time of growth and change. I feel so blessed to be helping you maximize your potential and to be your personal best as you navigate through this lifetime.

Of course, it’s not just about you; it’s also about me! I could not do this work if I were not on my own personal journey toward being and living my best life. Nurturing Your Success was born shortly after my third lay off in 2001. I took some time to assess what I really wanted for myself and my life, how I wanted to contribute to society, and what was really important to me. I needed to define ‘success’ so I could then learn how to create it because the path I had been traveling did not seem to be getting me the results I wanted.

What I learned through this period of self-discovery was that more than anything I value personal development and being the best we can be – we just don’t always know how to be great and that is the focus of my work with Nurturing Your Success®. I also returned to psychiatric nursing, which supports my efforts to help us accept ourselves and be all we are capable of being.

Here is a quote from my latest book, Does Change have to be so HARD?, which sums up my beliefs about the power we possess to live a rich and happy life.

“I believe that each of us has more personal power than we know how to use – and it scares us – that we have the power to change our lives for the better but we hide the best of ourselves behind a wall of fear, self-doubt and negative mental conditioning. In order to change, in order to make the impact we want to have in this lifetime, we must bring down that wall to release our power, start believing in ourselves and create powerful habits that allow us to be fully who we are.

I have always believed that we have the power to create our own happiness. My quest has been to discover those powers and learn how to use them to create a life that I love. Along the way, I have faced my share of hardships and challenges that have tested my resolve. I have had to learn to fight for life, love and happiness.

Often the most difficult and challenging moments of our lives are the best teachers. These obstacles and bumps in the road have helped me grow strong as I pushed forward in spite of them and learned to rise above my difficulties, conquer my fear and overcome self-doubts.

What I have learned is that the path to happiness is easier than we think it is; we are just not very skilled at it. And because we listen to others moan and groan we have few role models to demonstrate an ‘easier’ way.

The path to happiness requires us to love, honor and respect ourselves in every way. The more we do this, the better we become and the happier our lives become. We are magnets of attraction. We attract things, people, situations and resources into our lives depending upon how we think, feel and act. So the more you respect yourself and act in ways that support you to be your best, the more you attract the things you want. And when you respect yourself, when you take actions that honor your highest self, you start to repel things you don’t want like drama, problems and difficult people.

This concept describes the Law of Attraction, which I prefer to refer to as the ‘Law of Attractiveness’. Why? Because in order to attract what you want into your life – and repel the things you don’t – you focus on becoming ‘attractive’ so you become a magnet for your goal. Being ‘attractive’ means that you possess and demonstrate the attributes and characteristics required for that goal to be yours. In other words, you must behave accordingly.

Although you have this tremendous capacity to change your life for the better, success does not happen by chance. You have the power to transform your life – if you are willing to do the work, if you are willing to morph and grow yourself and go the distance. Then, change is possible.

Yet, we sure do give ourselves a hard time, don’t we?”

This is my mission – to educate and inspire you to be your best, to help you get out of your own way to happiness and success and to bridge the walls that separate us and behind which we hide the best of ourselves.

For these 10 wonderful years I have met many incredible people and enjoyed many new experiences including speaking around the country and coaching hundreds of people through change. I have published two books with more on the way. It’s been an honor to watch people grow and enjoy themselves and their lives!

I have learned much as well. Probably the most important lesson for me was to lighten up and have fun. Because life had been so hard in my younger years having been through divorce; overcome a grave illness, obesity, a huge mound of debt and addiction; and then, three layoffs – as a single parent no less, I decided that perhaps there was a better way. Perhaps life didn’t have to be so hard and went in search of an easier, softer way. I needed to stop taking everything so seriously and learn to let go, enjoy the moment and loosen up.

Lightening up has allowed me to shift long held, negative beliefs; it has opened new doors including getting remarried last year; and it’s allowed me to experience more joy than I could have hoped for. In addition, focusing on living with meaning and enjoying my life has led me on a path toward health and wellness. I am healthier and thinner than I have been in twenty years.

It doesn’t feel good to lack confidence or be uncertain of your choices or direction of your life. It doesn’t feel good to be overweight, in debt or in pain. It’s not acceptable to be in a relationship where you feel small or are hurting and don’t know how to stand up for yourself. We must strengthen our resolve to be our best, to focus on becoming our best so that we can, as Oprah states, “Live our best life.” No longer is it acceptable to be so busy that there is no time for us to care for ourselves. The time is now! Life doesn’t wait.

So as we look ahead at the next 10 years, together we continue to maximize our potential and be our personal best. I will continue Nurturing Your Success so you feel good about yourself and feel strong in your relationships; provide individual coaching sessions to those of you who want to move forward on a goal or develop a stronger personal foundation for self-management and self-care; and write articles and books to provide strategies for success. As you focus on the inside to build a better you, then you are able to live a happier life.
